- : An SLC will almost certainly limit you to the use of a symbol rate
- : lower then 3200, so chances are that you'll never even see a 31.2
- : connection, let alone a 33.6 one, BUT, the other big enhancement included
- : with in the annex to v.34 aside from the 33.6 speed is that it will allow
- : all symbol rates aside from the 2400 one to connect at one 2400bps step
- : higher. So, if you're limited to the 3000symbol rate, you're connect
- : speed would be limited to 26.4kbps with a 28.8 v.34 modem, but with a 33.6
- : v.34 modem you could theoretically connect at up to 28.8kbps. So, while
- : you'll never see 33.6 connects over an SLC, it may be worth spending the
- : extra few bucks for the possibility of getting an extra 2400bps out of the
- : phone lines at lower speeds.

- I realize you are trying to be helpful but you are incorrect about the
- limitation on an SLC. All of my lines (3) are on an SLC and I regularly
- get 31200/31200 connects between them and my symbol rate is usually 3429.
- There is this ongoing belief that being on an SLC will limit the
- performance but it's untrue. If the SLC is not properly optioned, there's
- a good chance it will limit the connection rate but it is not automatic.
-
- Interestingly enough, V.FC is limited on my SLC lines to 26400...
